For some reason, a new variant showing up somewhere (California) is news. To me, this is like saying we looked really hard at the sky and saw clouds. Of course, I’m not a high profile bureaucrat and infectious disease expert nor a corporatist fraudster, like Saint Doctor Lord & Savior Tony Fauci. I’m just a lifelong scientist who understands how to evaluate data, and not blatantly misrepresent what the data mean.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Anyway, you’ll quickly note that as forecasted long ago- the omicron variant will most likely be less deadly than delta, and it’s long been known each additional variant tends to be less deadly. So here’s a ‘story’, or more succinctly a series of hyped up nonsense. It’s full of sound and fury, and relevant to nothing and nobody.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

First Confirmed U.S. Case Of Omicron Variant Identified In California<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

The first confirmed case of the Omicron variant in the United States has been identified in California. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said that the person returned to the U.S. from South Africa on November 22. The individual tested positive one week later<\/a>, on November 29, and immediately began to self-quarantine. The individual was fully vaccinated and has mild symptoms, which are improving.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The agency said health officials have contacted the person’s close contacts, and they have all tested negative for COVID-19<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last week, several countries restricted travel from South Africa and other neighboring countries after the variant was identified. The variant was first detected in South Africa, but new evidence suggests it was in Europe<\/a> before it was identified by scientists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So far, it has been identified in more than 20 countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Omicron variant has over 50 mutations and more than 30 to the spike protein. Scientists are studying whether the variant could evade immune protection. The World Health Organization has classified Omicron as a “variant of concern.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
